Study that Fits your Working Life
Introduction to CIOB Professional Review
The College of Contract Management offers guidance and help to become MCIOB with our CIOB Professional Review Coaching Service. This is the last step in becoming a Chartered Member of the CIOB. It is the Professional Review that will show your competency within the construction industry and gain you that prestigious membership.
Often, people struggle with the Professional Review because it requires special formatting and detailed explanations in order to ensure the CIOB accept your review. It is important that you show your confidence when using terminology and field experience. It is this experience that will demonstrate your competencies to become a chartered member as well as your detailed understanding.
Gain Expert Knowledge
During your CIOB Professional Review Coaching, you will gain access to an expert assessor who will act as your guide throughout your CIOB application. This expert will help you with guidance on your CIOB documents and will help review your competence report and application. They will deliver feedback and advice live online through lectures and an online learning platform for you to gain the most knowledge.

The process of coaching for the Professional Review will consist of three main stages. The completion of each stage will vary depending on your understanding and work ethic. The live online meetings are mandatory and will not be recorded for you to catch up later. This means your attendance is vital; you will also be able to ask questions in real time with your computer microphone or through text chat.
Stage One:
The first stage will be the induction stage. This is where you get to know your assessor and learn everything there is to know about the Professional Review. It will include a three-hour induction meeting and a three-hour coaching session. These initial six hours will be held on Saturdays and Sundays for your convenience. These sessions are crucial: they will not be recorded, so you will need to attend them on the day.
Throughout the meetings you will be advised of guidelines. Furthermore, you’ll learn any CIOB requirements as well as how to prepare your application. This will be the most fundamental and important step in succeeding in your application. It is advised that you ask any questions during this time. You will then have all the knowledge you need to proceed with your application and complete it to the best of your ability.
Stage Two:
This second stage will be the drafting of your application. The College will not write the report or complete the application on behalf of you. In this stage of the coaching you will prepare your first draft of your Professional Review application for review by your assessor. This draft will be assessed in order to make sure your report meets all the relevant guidelines and requirements.
Assessment of your technical and management competencies before submission to the CIOB is an important step. It allows you to receive feedback on areas you can improve, as well as any things that are incorrect or would act negatively against your success.
Your assessor will have expertise with the CIOB guidelines and they will instruct you of any changes that need to be made. Your advisor will also provide guidance on the formatting and requirement of the Professional Review to ensure all technicalities will be accepted by the CIOB. If your corrections and alterations are successful and your application is valid, your application will be submitted to the CIOB.
Stage Three:
This stage entails submitting your Professional Review application to the CIOB. You will wait around one month for results from the CIOB whether you have been successful or not. You will most likely take the longest to change a large majority of your application in stage two. This stage will not take longer than three working days.
Stage Four:
At the end of your month of waiting for your results, you will be contacted by the CIOB. You will receive your results directly from them – you will not receive your professional review application results through the College of Contract Management. If you are successful – congratulations! – you have become a chartered member of the CIOB. If not – which is unlikely with our 100% pass rate! – we will get you back on track and help you amend your application for guaranteed success. If your application is in the borderline you will be invited for an interview by the CIOB.
Period of Study
Period of Study
The total period for this coaching course will be 12 weeks in total. This accounts for the 8 weeks it will take to start your induction meetings, liaising with your assessor and producing your initial assessment application. This also includes your review, corrections and submission. The further 4 weeks will be the waiting time to hear back from the CIOB regarding your results.
Course Availability
Course Availability
When signing up for Professional Review coaching, the groups will begin on the last weekend of every month. This will allow the 4 weeks of study and completion of your application. If you are successful in your first draft, you should be able to submit to the CIOB at the end of the following month. You can sign up at any time throughout the month. However, coaching sessions will not begin until the last Saturday of the month.
This is in order for as many people to attend the live sessions as possible. If you miss any of the live sessions, you will have to wait until the next scheduled lesson the following month. Meanwhile, you need to make sure you don’t have any technical issues such as your computer microphone, insufficient data and strength of internet connection.
If you require any support to check your technical status to follow the live online sessions you need to speak with your course administrator who will assist you prior to your course schedule.
