Introduction
This Professional Diploma in Commercial Management has been designed to help prepare you for membership of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES).
A commercial manager is a vital role within a business. Responsible for maximising growth opportunities, commercial managers rely heavily on skill. In order to succeed in this role, your skills will require training and practice. This course will help to build on your existing personal skills whilst teaching you some industry skills and tricks that will put you ahead of the rest.
Studying with the College of Contract Management
Delivered by our experienced lecturers, you will cover all areas within the industry and learn how to best handle the situations you may come across. Covering the art of successful estimation, law, measurements and management, your first year will develop these skills immeasurably. Through the second year you will study, in depth, civil engineering and business management concepts. Over the course of both years you will see a vast increase in comprehension and skill.
Once you have signed up to the course you are entitled to free student membership for the duration of the course, then a period of free graduate membership on successful completion of the course. The Graduate Member grade recognises the knowledge you have gained on the course and as such allows you use the post-nominals GCInstCES (Graduate Member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors) after your name – very useful when applying for roles within civil engineering surveying.
CICES offer a number Commercial Management specialisms for civil engineering surveyors. These include Quantity Surveying, Estimating, Project Management, Planning, Procurement, Construction Law and Cost Engineering.
Awarding Body
Our Professional Diploma in Commercial Management course is recognised by the CICES. Along with the Certificate in Commercial Management, it will help you to gain a professional qualification with the CICES without needing a degree or Higher National Diploma.

You can take the modules in any order, either one at a time or all together. We’ll give you written coursework for each module, as well as a final assignment. Alternatively, you can choose to take 1 large final assignment that covers all 3 modules, rather than doing coursework. Your final assignment will count for 40% of your overall grade.

Course Delivery
The Studying Process
For each module within this course, you will be trained by an expert tutor with years of experience in the industry. You will be provided with both a course guide and a manual for each module. Using shared screen technology and textbook material, you will receive and expert guided learning experience. Throughout your study you will have access to the College’s online portal, Moodle. Through this portal you will have access to course materials, the ability to contact your tutors, as well as the opportunity to message other students.
The Assessment Process
At the end of each module, you will be expected to complete an assessment. You will not be required to travel anywhere, as because all assessments are to be submitted online, you can complete them at home. At the end of the module, the assessment papers will be uploaded to your Moodle. Once you have finished your assignment, you will then be required to upload it to your Moodle for your assessors to access. Following successful completion of each assessment, you will then we rewarded with your Professional Diploma in Commercial Management certificate.
Period of Study
The online Professional Diploma in Commercial Management course takes around 9 months to complete. This is a postgraduate level course, therefore we recommend that you study it part-time whilst you work. However, we do allow you up to 3 year if you need, without any extra cost.
