Introduction
Estimation plays a key role in the success of a construction project. In order to complete a construction process profitably, accurate estimation must be carried out to truly determine the cost of the job at hand. Within the pre-construction process, estimation is a skill that is heavily relied upon to help accurately assess the project costs and limitations. This includes direct costs such as the materials and construction crew, to the more indirect costs. Indirect costs takes into account any addition fees that may arise such as site cleaning, permits and professional services. Without an accurate cost estimation, the margin of profitability for a construction project becomes increasingly unclear. With this NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Estimating, you will discover the skills required to steer a construction project towards the most successful outcome.
This course has been designed to grant learners with the myriad of skills required for accurate estimation. It will form learners of the eight key phases of the pre-construction process, from reviewing the bid package, conducting site visits, calculating direct and indirect costs to the final account of profit and margins. You will learn how to evaluate labour requirements inclusive of loaded labour weights, and understand the impact this has on a project costing. From that you will then determine insurance and bonding costs, both of which are essential within any project. Through these new found skills you will be able to keep a budget in check and help aid the growth of construction.
